UnYOUsual, with a rather unusual name offers custom made iPhone cases and glass panels for the iPhone. I received two units to try out from UnYOUsual, one of their GlassPic Panels as well as a Slender Case. Both of the cases allowed me to add my own image, which I believe UnYOUsual laser prints on, so its pretty permanent, no scratching or peeling. FIrst, let’s start off with the Slender Case.
UnYOUsual Slender Case
The slender case arrived packaged in a pretty cool recycled box, which appeared to be a gift box at first glance. After opening the box, I noticed the case that I custom made nestled in styrofoam packing to protect it from cracking or breaking. Upon inspecting the Slender Case and giving it a once over, I noticed that the case wasn’t made of the thick polyurethane plastic that most of these cases are made out of, but instead a slightly cheaper, lighter plastic, which gave off an excellent shine and showed the designs very well, but had me doubting its duty of protecting my iPhone, if I were to drop it.
The Slender Case is your average polycarbonate iPhone case, but what truly sets it apart is UnYOUsual’s addition of customer designs. UnYOUsual allows you to add your own custom design, however, they also have a collection of artist designs that you may also apply. Pros

- works with both iPhone 4 and 4S and works well with the ports and buttons on iPhone
Cons
- Design came on a little dark when printed, although the custom image was bright
- Polycarbonate is thin, not protecting against drops, which most cases do
- Software to put on custom design can be spotty at times, but works excellently when in use!
UnYOUsual GlassPic Panel
This is defining case (or panel, if you wish) of UnYOUsual’s lineup of iPhone offerings. The GlassPic panel was tried out on an iPhone 4, and fit very nicely, but looked a bit odd because of the mismatch from the all black front of the iPhone 4 to the design on the back. The GlassPic panel came with two screwdrivers, to remove the two screws on the bottom of the iPhone 4 which is specially made by Apple. The addition of the screwdrivers, I believe, is what makes this whole process a little better.
UnYOUsual didn’t leave you to figure out how to remove it on your own. After removing the screws, I simply pushed up the back and lifted off, and replaced it with the UnYOUsual panel using the same process and put the two screws back in place. The GlassPic panel was installed! The panel is very similar to Apple’s glass pic and looks identical. One interesting point to note about the GlassPic panel is that the design isn’t printed on the glass but is actually inside of the glass, making sure that your design is permanent and will not fade or scratch.
For those of you wondering, all of UnYOUsual’s cases made for the iPhone 4 also work for the iPhone 4S, although it would be great to see them add slightly more choices for users that are picky. The choice with UnYOUsual really lies in the users option to add their own design to the cases, which is truly one of the better options. PLEASE NOTE: Adding a GlassPic Panel, as with any iPhone additions voids your Apple warranty so make sure to buy this if you’re really dedicated to designing your phone!
